Mr. Shorafa is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and the Lead Clinician for the regional Oral & Maxillofacial services based at Northwick Park Hospital; he also is the lead clinician Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Wexham Park and Heatherwood Hospitals.
Following extensive training in the field of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Mr Shorafa has years of experience at Consultant level.
He qualified in Dentistry in 1992, following which he also undertook a period of focused research and was awarded Master’s Degree in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (MDS), Mr. Shorafa also has Medical (MBBS) degree from Kings College London which enabled him to become part of a very small group (nationally) of surgeons who have received combined full Dental and Medical qualifications.
Following his undergraduate Dental and Medical qualifications, he has worked and trained in many renowned hospitals both nationally and internationally.
Having trained in General Surgery, General Medicine, Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery and Neurosurgery, he then started his speciality training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery which continued for another 5 years. During this time Mr Shorafa worked in some of London’s leading hospitals including Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital, The Eastman Dental Hospital, St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and Northwest London Hospitals.
On completion of his higher surgical training, he passed the Intercollegiate FRCS examinations in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and was subsequently awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training.
Mr. Shorafa is registered as specialist Oral Surgeon on GDC (General Dental Council) specialist register, he is also registered as specialist Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon on GMC (General Medical Council) specialist register.
He has a special interest in Orthognathic Surgery, Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma, Oral medicine, cancer of the mouth and skin cancers of the Head & neck, Dental Implantology including Bone grafting and Sinus lift, Minor oral surgery including surgical removal of wisdom teeth, under local anaesthesia, sedation and general anaesthesia, Mr Shorafa has special interest in salivary gland disease Sialoendoscopy of the salivary gland obstructions.
He continues to take an active interest in Medical & Dental education and training. He is the Educational supervisor for the speciality registrars in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, also the Educational supervisor for the dental foundation trainees.
Mr Shorafa is on the panel of the examiners for the MFDS part 2 examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, MJDF part 2 examinations at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, panel member for SITE assessment for the core surgical trainees and also on the panel of examiners for Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Examination (ISFE) in Oral Surgery.
Mr Shorafa is Royal College of Surgeons BAOMS Specialty advisor for South Central region; he is also a member of the council of the Oral & Maxillofacial section of the Royal Society of Medicine.
